The End-Goodbye Entourage

Entourage, HBO’s original series about the bonds of friendship in the fast paced LA lifestyle, has sadly come to an end. With the final season featuring only eight episodes, it was necessary for the plot to quickly evolve in order for a complete resolution. The issue was the resolution didn’t begin until the end of episode seven, leaving the half hour segment of episode eight to tie together all the loose ends for five major characters.

Eric Murphy (Kevin Connolly) manages to rekindle his relationship with the ever beautiful Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui) with the help of the Entourage gang. Closure to their relationship has been a long time coming, let’s just hope it lasts long enough to make it to the big screen. Drama (Kevin Dillon) manages to pull a Charlie Sheen WINNING streak when he not only succeeds in the world of animation, but receives the role of his dreams as the lead in a made-for-tv movie. Drama’s wishful bright eyes and crooked grin finally makes it big after years of bit-parts and broken promises, which the audience greatly applauds.

Being independent of Vince and his shadow has been a goal for all the Entourage members, and until the final season, Turtle, played by Jerry Ferrara, always seemed to fall short. However, the final season proves to be Turtle’s time to shine after savvy marketing and investing in a up-and-coming tequila brand turns him into a millionaire. The only added bonus would have been a new romantic interest for the loveable “gangster marijuana indulger.” Maybe the upcoming film will feature Jamie Lynn Siegler taking a vacation from her new television series and showing up on Turtle’s door step with some snazzy new sneakers in hand and a sincere apology. Turtle, the audience is rooting for you.

Screen candy Vincent chase, played by Adrien Grenier, falls in love again. This time the ravishing vixen is a magazine reporter on assignment to write a feature article on the famous actor. After begging and pleading for a single date, Sophia finally agrees to a night out with Vince, which results in a decision to head for the altar. A glimpse of the date was never provided, leaving the audience sitting with uncertainty, contemplating the believability of the love affair. Even a romantic would have a hard time accepting this accelerated romance.

Jeremy Piven’s character, Ari Gold, succumbs to the most life altering change when he decides to quit his job in order to save his family from self-made destruction. And from Bobbie Flay. Ari undergoes a degree of emotions from the start of the final season until the very end. In fact, the final season gives Ari the depth needed for a complex character, providing Ari with the ability to grow as a person. Or has he? As the cliff hanging segment presented mid credit suggests. Warner Brothers and cable network tycoon John Ellis offers Ari his position as the richest man in the business, which screams feature film potential.

As an overall series, Entourage did what any great television show does and made the audience sympathize with its characters. When a show lingers in one’s mind long after each episode, it is truly a success. The only flaw in the final season was the rush to the finish line. The characters have progressed so much over time they deserved an hour-long finale.
